             Short-term Memory and Long-term Memory

There may be different memory systems.   One memory system
may be short-term memory, and another memory system may be
long term-memory.  What is short-term memory?  What is
long-term memory?

Short-term Memory Definition:

Short-term memory is a memory system that retains a limited
amount of information for a brief period of time.

Long-term Memory Definition:

Long-term memory is a memory system that retains a large
amount of information for a long period of time.

Short-term Memory Example:

A short-term memory example is when you are at a party and
you learn someone's name, but you forget the person's name after
about five minutes.

Long-term Memory Example:

A long-term memory example is when you remember a concept
that you learned in a college course that you took twenty years ago.
