A researcher needs to determine whether a result
(e.g., a difference between two conditions of an
experiment) reflects a real difference or is something
that is due to chance.  This can be accomplished
with inferential statistics.  What are inferential
statistics?  Below is a definition of inferential
statistics:

results in a study are due to chance.
